Comments: | Hello my name is Pete age 49 former Marine. I am somewhat of a WW2 buff, I enjoy e-mailing and talking to Veterans who served in WWII whether on land, air, or sea. I usually like to find out what you did, what rank you had, length of service, and what battles you fought in. I then try to find this information that I can download from the internet or I offer to pay for a few picture that you can get copy, I also try to get at least one picture of yourself and ask if you would sign it for me. I also will send you a SASE if that will help you out. I e-mail veterans from all nations that fought in WW2. This is strictly a hobby, I do not sell or publish to make a profit on anyone’s name. This is my way of having my own library on WW2 veterans and my tribute to those men, because we lose so many WW2 veterans every day all this history goes with them. If this is ok with you please e-mail me back. I would appreciate it. You guys are the men that I look up to as heroes. Here’s something about me: I was born in San Francisco 1953. I have lived in California all of my life. I graduated from High School in 1972 and I joined the Marine Corps, stayed in for 5 years and became a sergeant. I was in the infantry O331 (M 60 machine gunner) or better known as a super grunt. After I got out, I went into the Army National Guard and was in the medical battalion for three years. After the service I went into the medical field in 1980. My first nine years were working the streets of East Los Angeles or better known as The Gun and Knife Club. I spent two years working in the trauma center in the emergency room. In 1989 my family and I moved out to the desert (Indio, near Palm Springs). From there I went to work for Eisenhower Medical Center also in the emergency room for the last 11 years. I spent five years as a volunteer fire fighter for the county of Riverside. Where I become a State Firefighter 1. My wife also works at Eisenhower for a private doctor. My wife and I have been married almost 23 years. I have a 17-year old daughter who is in her last year of High School and a 14- year old son who is in his first year of High School. As of April of this year after nearly 22 years of medical work. I quit and went back to school full time to earn a second degree but I am not sure what that degree will be. A few of my hobbies other than e-mailing and writing WW 2 veterans, I build model ships all from WW 2 period and nations. At last count I had at least 70 finished with at least 10 that I have not yet started. I have my own small library of military books mostly references. I also volunteer at the Palm Springs Air Museum, which is dedicated to all WW 2 veterans. I go there once or twice a week after school. Now you know a little bit about me. |

Comments: | Great website -- I enjoyed it immensly. One quick question, however - The Military Medal (awarded to Sgt Poisson) while a great valour award indeed; is not equivalent to the US Medal of Honor. This would be the Victoria Cross. The Military Medal is roughly equivalent to either the Silver or the Bronze Star in the US Medals and Decorations System. |

Comments: | I am English and live near Nettlebed. I am researching the American Army units that were based in the Henley, Nettlebed, Kingwood Common, Peppard, Badgemore and Checkendon areas in 1943 to 1945. I have a particular interest in the Station Hospitals at Kingwood Common and Checkendon. I am looking for any one with memories, photos, plans they would be prepared to share with me or any ideas for places to look. There is a small concrete 'Engineer Castle' still in the woods near Nettlebed. It was made by the 343rd Eng Batt and I am told it was one of two at the entrances to the camp. Hence your page on the Castle device as used by the Engineers was very interesting! Best wishes from Oxfordshire Tony |

Comments: | Searching for information on the Rhine and insights to help my father and gather information on post traumatic stress that might help school bus drivers and children. My father has just started sharing information regarding his military experience. Talking seems to help him. He reports his unit was "wiped out". He is 81 years old and served as a private with the US Army's 7th army. He was a part of the Seventieth (Trailblazers) division an old newspaper clipping he sent home reported the division was "made up largely of Minnesotans, and the 101st Cavalry group". Other known details: My father left the USA on 1/5/45 by boat. He arrived in France on 01/15/45. He left France on July 3, 1945. I'm very proud of my father and everyone who fought to help protect our freedom. Thank you!! |

Comments: | Just 2 months ago I was invited to speak at a convention of the 82 Engineer Combat Bn, l9th Corps, 9th Army asset during WWII about my remembrances of WWII as a 9 year old child living in the rest center town of Heerlen Holland. I heard a story from one of the bridge builders which I find quite hilarious. During the building of a very important bridge across the Albert Canal near Maastricht which was being observed by many Corps and Army officials the young 2nd Lt in charge wanted to be sure that nothing would go wrong so whenever a move was made he would lay his level to insure that everything was still the way it should be, much to the aggravation of the GI's. Then all of a sudden a section of the bridge fell into the canal and would't you know some smartaleck GI hollored out, much to the embarrassment of the young Lt "Hey Lt bring the level" Needless to say it brought grins to some faces. By the way the 82nd has its' own website. Thanks for your participation in my liberation. Peter Bardoul Atlanta, GA |

I haven't been able to find any information. I do know that he was in North Africa, was there with the English Army before Patton got there...He was in Sicily, Italy, Germany, France etc...Supplying the front and Patton with fuel and ammunition...building bridges and roads... I've heard the stories my whole life, and am doing research and taping the stories my Dad tells so it won't be forgotten. My Dad is my hero, and I'd like to link him up with his past, those few years that so changed and molded his life. Bless everyone who has served our country and in doing so, blessed us... Comments: | I'm a former 12Bravo living in Trebur, Germany just East of the Nierstein Bridging site. I'm interested in any stories about fighting which took place in or around Trebur, Nauheim, Gross-Gerau, and Mrfelden. I have a German acquaintance who is an amateur historian and has many first-hand reports of local engagements from German civilians and Wehrmacht veterans. He also knows the location of a Sherman Tank which was buried in a large crater. We are considering excavating the thing and so I'd be interested if anyone knows what unit might have lost a Sherman on a farm somewhere South of the Schwarzbach between Trebur and Geinsheim. They also crossed the Moselle in September with the 90th Infantry Division, but I'm not sure on which bridge. I'm sure it's in one of the pictures on your site. Their veterans often speak of how the Moselle was flooded and what a miracle it was that a bridge was built. |

Comments: | A huge thank you to all the veterans who fought in WWII!! I have the utmost respect for all of you and the sacrifices you made for our country. My grandfather and great-uncle were with the British Army and often spoke of the bravery of the "Yanks". I am proud to be descended from both British and Americans who fought and died bravely to make keep our world free from tyranny. Growing up as a military brat outside of Bitburg AFB (now closed) I often played in old bunkers left by the allied forces. What an amazing irony - a place that was a fun playfort for me as a child, was at one time a frontline in a war. You veterans are amazing and I certainly don't think most people my age (30) do not realize what you accomplished in WWII. Well, I do and I thank you for it everyday and God Bless each and every one of you! |

Comments: | I was looking through your site and was quite impressed. It is so
refreshing to see patriotism! I truly worry about the kids of today and there lack of respect for the flag and what it stands for. I'm sure it's because they have never been faced with war close to home and therefor it doesn't seem relevant to them. It's a shame that when things are good we take life so for granted and those that have come before us. Thanks for your heart in the matter. |

Comments: | I got a chill when I read the records of the 150th Engineers. It
was almost a direct copy of my 1306 Engineers' record. We were close from Utah Beach, across France, the Bulge, Germany, and Austria. We built bridges across the same rivers, including the Rhine. Ours was also built near Oppenhein but was a Bailey bridge supported on the remains of a burned-down wood pile bridge. Our paths separated after VE Day when we were redeployed directly to the Philippines, and then to Japan after VJ Day. I'm writing a historical novel of the 1306 Engineers and the Red Ball Road. I would like to contact anyone familiar with our part in the War. Thank you, 150th Engineers. You have a great website. Max Schwartz, formerly Mst/sgt, S-3 1306 G.S. Engineer Regiment |

Comments: | I did a search on 'Combat Engineers' I am doing a little research.
I have met an old combat engineer vet here in Waynesboro Pa who landed with the 29th Division on D-day and fought all the way to V-E day. Since I am a 21 year Navy vet in our conversation he indicated that he had served. When he told me that his unit was attached to the 29th I asked him if he had landed at Omaha beach. He gave me a little bit of his trek across Europe. I was enjoying the experience of talking to this man when he burst into tears. He really is totally incapable of detailing his WWII experience. We have talked several times but anytime it gets close to his military service he chokes up. I am trying to do a little research to understand what he might have gone through. All though he told me what unit he was with I don't remember. So, I am snoopin around a little to see what I can come up with. You got a pretty good site and I appreciate that you are saving our history. R/ Don Freeman |

How did you hear about us?: | link from Engineer Combat Battalion |
Comments: | My dad was in the 278th Engineer Combat Battalion and served in the European Theatre from December 1944 thru August 1945. I have a map of their travels and a narrative of their deployment from basic thru the end of the war in Europe. That's all I've been able to collect so far. I do have pictures my dad took while in Europe. Lot's of Bailey bridges They constructed a 690 foot class 70 bailey bridge over the Muese River near Hermalle which coincides with the Battle of the Bulge. Anyway, thanks for a great web site. |

How did you hear about us?: | I saw a hit on the 368th GS Engineers WW2 |
Comments: | Always looking for info or a miracle on the 368th in which my father served in WW2. Like so many of us I waited to long to ask. Now most inquires are met with frustration as to obtaining personal records because of the fire. I did find out at one point my dad was transferred to an infantry unit but I dont know at what point during the war that that happened. So the miracle would be to find someone who knew him. His name Victor DiBlasi from Brooklyn NY. Any help with info on the 368th Eng. or the 118th Inf. would be wonderful. Great sight. Keep up the good work, and God bless. |

We left Australia, went through New Guinea in six major landings. Then to the Phillipines, I was in 2 there, but the Div. went every which way, chasing the enemy. Finally occupied Japan. Our various Combat Engineers, in the landings did a masterful job. Our Artillery Piper Cubs, always needed a landing strip, thanks! Best, Rich Mesa AZ |

am looking for information about my father's service during WWII. My father, First Lt. Kenneth A. McKethan received the Silver Star while serving with the Army of the United States on March 3, 1945. He was leader of the 2nd platoon, Co. 'H,' 67 Armored Regiment which was acting as point for a task force penetrating into enemy territory in an effort to cross the Adolf Hitler bridge and secure a bridgehead on the East bank of the Rhine (taken from local newspaper account). If there are folks who can assist me in my search for information about his unit, I would love to hear from you! |

Comments: | My father, 78, served w/351st Combat Engineers, Company A-- it's
is amazing to look through this and other sites to see how many second and third generations are seeking and sharing information about these brave men and what they sacrificed. My father did depart from Fort Devens (still lives in a nearby town) and spent three years overseas. As children and grandchildren, we have heard so many stories about the Rhineland, Ardennes, Bulge, Luxemburg, Normandy, etc. It's is wonderful to be able to share this information via the internet, as this was such a huge part of their lives--the memories are still as real today as they were 45 years ago. To find someone who walked in the same shoes is such a treasure! I recently attended an "Operation Recognition" ceremony, where my father and 25 other military veterans received their high school graduation diplomas in a middle/high school gymnasium (grades 5-12 in attendance.) The students listened to every word spoken-- they were in awe to hear that the men and women seated in front of them had left high school to fight for their freedom, coming back too old at 21 and 22, as well as shaken, to finish their education. He would love to hear from anyone in the 351st Combat Engineers. Kudos for such a great site and tribute! |

all of your efforts. I'm looking for mention of my father-in-law Russell Baker then of Galesburg IL who came ashore on D_Day 2 and eventualy made it to Nuremburg by way of the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Baker now lives in Watsonville CA, and is still putting in full weeks as a charter bus driver. He amazes me now and his past is riveting. I read Stephen Ambroses "Citizen Solider" and Mr. Baker started telling me the stories of his time in Europe. I would love to find some kind of official record of his work there. the Rhine River with one platoon on the Ludendorff Railroad Bridge at Remagen. Our battalion mission was to protect the bridge(s) against water bore attack to include torpedos and floating mines. A treadway bridge constructed by the 291st ECBN opened for tank traffic in the early morning hours of Mar 10th and a heavy pntoon bridge constructed bu the 51st ECBN opened for east-bound class 40 traffic early on 11 March. Until I visited your webb site I had been led to believe that the FIRST US ARMY engineers were first to bridge the Rhine in WWII. YOUR SITE IS GREAT AND I PLAN TO VISIT OFTEN. THANKS! Glade S.
